SMILE GRENADA! A CHRISTMAS SMILE PROJECT!
Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec making Grenadian children smile.
The Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec (SICDAQ) is putting a smile on the faces of Grenadian Children for the upcoming holiday season with their Christmas Smile Project. Due to Covid-19 and the loss of many jobs in Grenada, SICDAQ is answering the call, with the collaboration of the Office of the Honorary Consul for Grenada in Quebec, Theodore H. Blaize, to assist with sending toys, books, school supplies, personal items and toiletries for children’s homes and orphanages in Grenada.
Answering the call of the Belair Home for Babies to 18 years old, located in St. George, the Grand Bacolet Centre for adolescents, located in St. Andrew and Father Mallaghan’s Home for Boys in St. George, SICDAQ shipped 4 barrels and 6 boxes filled with items collected from Grenadians and friends of Grenada residing in Montreal, Toronto and parts of the United States.
“An abundance of love is being shown by our Organization to these needy children in our homeland with this initiative. Although with the short time we had to collect the toys and other items, we were able to come through with the help of our members and many more. We want to offer our special thanks to those who answered our humanitarian call,” says Byron Cameron, President of SICDAQ.
The Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec is a non-profit organization which has as one of its many mandates to act as a medium to garner supplies, services and resources to support and strengthen institutions in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
In addition to the Christmas Smile project, the SICDAQ Organization is also proud to announce that they were also able to send 6,000 face masks and 3,500 gloves to the Ministry of Health for the frontline workers in Grenada’s hospitals and the Royal Grenada Police Force dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Organization’s collection of funds from their GoFundMe Campaign which resulted from their campaign during the virtual Spice Island Cultural Summer Festival, this initiative has come to fruition. A total of $5,000Cdn was raised through this initiative. 25% of the total amount collected ($1250) was also donated to Seniors Action Quebec, a non-profit organization advocating for seniors in the Province of Quebec.
Thanks to all the donors.
